BRACHIAL PALSY
"The Central Point Of The Nine Planets"
Eternal Soul - 2009
CD
This German projects shows how to innovate the dark ambient genre in a very simple and effective way, loosing the genre's border until it unpredictably overlaps with the likes of IDM, trance and more classical ambient. Opener "Landing Zone", indeed, sounds like a standard L.O.K.I.-trademark track, deep space sounds mixed with astronauts' radio communications, but already the following "Mother Earth" unfolds in a completely different approach, with slow, hypnotic beats and melodic synths making the track even catchy. More Inade-like are "Heliosphere" and "Stunde Der Geburt", with heavy, repetitive beats leading the dark outer galaxy melody into the cold void, while the amazing title-track and "First Contact" are trancey journeys among swarms of comets, very intense and dreamy.
The most impressive proof of Brachial Palsy's talent is, however, "The Violent Lives Of Galaxies", a powerful and striking example of how to combine IDM rhythms with astonishing glacial melodies, thus perfectly evoking the gigantic movement of galaxies, stars and planets. There's a feeling of drama, of imminent destruction, yet of absolute and eternal in these sounds. Equally breath-taking is "Hell 9000", where rhythm is completely left behind, making room for a totally overwhelming storm of cosmic keyboards and distant voices coming from already dead worlds.
Be sure that, when purchasing "The Central Point Of The Nine Planets", you get a very interesting and fascinating compendium of modern evocative electronics, covering a wide spectrum of styles and sounds. No stereotyped dark ambient over here, on the contrary, the future of it.
