DÂNNÂGÔISCHD

"Emm Dichdâ Ondrholz"

Percht - 2009

CD / CD bag - 150 copies

The strange name chosen for this Vinterriket side-project is in Swabian dialect, characteristic of Southern Germany, the area from which the elusive musician comes from. Recently, he got closer to the neofolk scene, adding acoustic guitar and vocals to his main creature, and becoming also a full member of Sturmpercht. The sound of Dânnâgôischd is pure German forestal neofolk, with noises and voices from the woods creating a background for the simple pastoral ballads, all sung strictly in Swabian, local language quite incomprehensible even to standard German-speaking people.

There are no big variations along the sixteen tracks that compose this debut, except for the almost ambient interlude of "Schnai Emm Fiildâ" (very Vinterriket-style) and "Bei Naachd Onnd Enn Näâbl" (with cawing crows, rippling lake water and cold wind), or the strange instrumental hybrid with accordion and nocturnal noise of "Baumschdempf". Surely, Dânnâgôischd is much more convincing than the neofolk-driven Vinterriket, even if it adds nothing to the scene. The CD also contains a video where, differently from those we are used to expect from the main project, nature doesn't appear as ghostly and hostile, but luxuriant and alive, even if always reluctant to human presence. Very nice is also the package smelling of peppermint!
