To celebrate the by now legendary shows played by Genocide Organ in Japan back in 2003, Tesco Organisation and Teito release an extensive live document, available both as a limited edition LP and CD with extra DVD, the latter containing a filmed selection of the best tracks performed on the 1st and 3rd March. The gatefold sleeve of the LP is spectacular: on one side there's a panoramic view of Tokyo under Allied bombings in WWII, on the other side a similar image of the Japanese capital as seen today; on the front, a traditional mask partly disfigured, with someone's eyes staring at you through the eye sockets.
Taking a look at the tracklist, you immediately notice that most of the titles are brand-new, and indeed these tracks were probably assembled for the special occasion and will, maybe, see the light on the forthcoming G.O. full-length. The only "classic" we get to listen to is "Hail America", here possibly in its most powerful and effective version ever, with B. Moloch's vocals shouting on the well-known regurgitating mass of analogue distortion. Other highlights are represented by the two tracks eventually released on the elusive "With Heart And Hand" 7" single, a precious occasion to give them a listen if you missed the item last spring.
The sound of these live assaults in the land of the Rising Sun moves on the coordinates of the Mannheim quartet's latest outputs, subtle and sinister, rather than in-your-face attacks. Excellent examples are moments like "Sword" or "Loyal In Peace", where noise strata, metal thuds, steel rubbing and sampled TV and radio voices conjure an oppressive post-holocaust atmosphere, the one you expect to feel inside a bunker, while the rest of the world above is being annihilate by radiations and bombing. Another precious proof of Genocide Organ's unique ability at mastering the different aspects of industrial music, in the studio and on stage. Not to be missed.
