JAHRTAL

"William Blake
Lieder Von Unschuld Und Wiederfahren"

Ahnstern - 2009

CD

After the not too brilliant debut CD of two years ago, Jahrtal are back with a second one, this time centred upon William Blake's famous collection of poems "Songs Of Innocence And Experience", already celebrated and put in music by other artists in the past. The Austrian duo's sound gets now even closer to the classic folk of the late 1960's - early 70's, with remarkable influences, of course, from the German-speaking area, as well as a certain improvement with the instruments since the first recordings.

Unfortunately, the weak spots have remained the same: the vocals, monochord and absolutely unable to communicate emotions, and the repetitiveness that stalks along the whole disc, just slightly loosing its tight in one or two moments. Jahrtal don't show great ambitions and present themselves in a modest and simple way, but, nonetheless, in the currently overcrowded neofolk scene a band needs to do much more in order to emerge or, at least, distinguish itself a bit.
