KARJALAN SISSIT
"Fucking Whore Society"
Cyclic Law / Eternal Soul - 2009
CD - 2000 copies / LP - 399 copies
With a particularly revolting sleeve, worth of the worst GG Allin, here comes the new Karjalan Sissit full-length, served on both CD and vinyl thanks to the cooperation of Cyclic Law and Eternal Soul. The formula adopted in these new eleven tracks is not much different from what the Finnish project, and the martial / industrial genre in general, already offered in the past: bombastic orchestral samples, thundering martial beats and apocalyptic atmospheres. Half of the record follows that direction, whereas the other half concentrates on more disquieting atmospheres, with dark ambient strata and a distant, filtered voice speaking all the time. The influence of In Slaughter Natives and The Protagonist can be heavily felt in the music, but the vocals are much more distorted and furious, while the music is less imaginative and more monolithic.
Aside the pompous title and the feeling of total aggression it wants to communicate, "Fucking Whore Society" doesn't add much to the martial / industrial / orchestral / bombastic area. Indeed, lately this scene seems to have become a bit like the heavy metal genre, always repeating the same scheme over and over, for an audience that perfectly knows what to expect. Not a positive symptom in what was once an undefined region of the music underground, where each band always followed its own way and interests, hardly ever copying the others or even caring about what was happening around. For hardcore fans only.
