The long-announced Kirlian Camera retrospective collection finally sees the light in two different formats: a double CD with an essential coverage of the band's recent history plus the rare deleted original versions of their classic hits taken from singles and 12"s released in the 1980s', and a deluxe limited 4 CD box with even more rarities, remixes and obscure stuff. If you already own the previous historical anthology, the by now ultra-rare "The Ice Curtain", there's no risk to get a sort of duplicate, for the two have actually very little in common. Indeed, CD 1 is centred upon the present moment, with Elena Alice Fossi as singer: we find both the latest well-known anthems ("K-Pax", "Coroner's Sun", "Odyssey Europa", "Dead Zone In The Sky"), as well as unreleased new versions of the old songs ("Heldenplatz", "Eclipse", "In The Endless Rain"), and even a fantastic cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" (often listened in their live sets).

CD 2 is the most interesting dish for newer fans, but for collectors as well: besides few titles from the 1990s', with Emilia Lo Jacono on vocals ("Absentee", "Your Face In The Sun" and "Ascension"), we find all the rare singles from the 1980s', in their edited 7" versions (whereas on "The Ice Curtain" they were in their 12" versions): "Ocean", "Blue Room", "Edges", the magnificent and never ever seen on CD original "Heldenplatz", with Kirlian Camera's first singer Simona Buja at her best. We also find a quite emotional Angelo Bergamini singing on the very much italo-disco-oriented "Communicate", and Simona Buja once again, on her today definitely outdated solo release "Passing Masks". The other two CDs, included only in the deluxe limited box, offer some remixes, more tracks from the Italian band's whole history, more covers (Joy Division, Laibach), and the even rarer B-sides of the "Heldenplatz" and "Ocean" singles.

"Odyssey Europa" is a beautiful and rich collection of the band's very best, covering their whole 30 years of career, and finally offering again the impossible to find originals from the early days. Every Kirlian Camera fan can't miss it, either in its normal or special edition, and will surely serve as perfect introduction to any new comer as well.
