POST CONTEMPORARY CORPORATION
"Manzotin Mantra"
MCL / Misty Circles - 2008
12" - 400 copies
Finally new signs of life from the bizarre realms of Post Contemporary Corporation. This time, the joint forces of Musica Di Un Certo Livello and Misty Circles deliver a beautiful limited edition 12" in transparent blue vinyl, carved with new striking dictates of Zekkini's massive poetry. "Manzotin Mantra" is a new concept, the new challenge to the modern world: the idea behind this new Post Contemporary opus is "the privatization of language itself", making it in the process totally personal and unique, thus preventing anyone else from distorting or misrepresenting our message. The idea is nothing less but revolutionary, it has to be seen however how they intend to bring such an ambitious project into reality.
The vinyl contains eight mantras, practically speaking eight versions of the same track remixed and reworked by eight different artists. Zekkini provides the speech, while the guest musicians, electro-manipulators and noise-makers create the music. The list features some remarkable names: Spiritual Front, Der Feuerkreiner and Malato, as well as Sandblasting, Obsil, and even electro-pop devotees Tourdeforce. The results are of different nature: Der Feuerkreiner and Malato surely achieve the best results, with their gloomy industrial and ritual soundscapes, but Sandblasting's rhythmic noise orgy is not less stimulating and enjoyable, not to talk about Obsil's eerie sonic alchemy or Tourdeforce's dancy interlude.
Zekkini's lyrics are as crazy as ever, a real cut-up of both real and invented words in several languages, spoken with hieratic voice like he was in a state of deep mystical trance... the Manzotin Mantra in its purest form. Summing up, this vinyl release is a cool collector's item, and the music is enough different between each track to make the whole listening experience interesting and enjoyable. And the closing track, "Boatos", is a collection of Zekkini's slogans, sounding like a fake public declamation, so demented and brilliant that they have to be listened to be believed (for Italian listeners only, of course). Enough for the moment, while waiting for the second PCC full-length, of course.
