TETHRIPPON

"Tethrippon"

Ahnstern - 2009

CD / CD box - 150 copies

The word Tethrippon in Ancient Greek indicates Apollyon's flaming chariot, the one that, according to the Hellenic myth, traveled across the sky and of which his son Phaeton, trying awkwardly to lead it, lost control, causing a series of disasters that culminated into the explosion of Zeus' rage. The duo that took this denomination comes from Greece itself and tries to give prestige back to the civilization that gave birth to the West, with an epic and involving music, played upon never too heavy martial rhythms, austere melodies and outstanding vocals, singing all the lyrics in Ancient Greek! Think of a Dernière Volonté relocated somewhere near Athens or Sparta, deprived of his recent pop inflexions and fighting at the Thermopylae to send back the Persian army.

The CD is very homogeneous, there aren't huge variations between the songs, and, even if that could represent a limit, it nonetheless assures a certain continuity during the listening, without turnoffs or sudden shifting. Anyway, few exalting moments don't fail to emerge, such as initial "Mother Nature's Hymn", "A Prayer To The Sun", and final "Fire Holder", "Corruption's Burial" and "We Won" (titles are strictly in ancient Greek too, with English translation aside). Summing up, a remarkable debut, for a name you surely will have to keep an eye on in the future.
